Cheese/Wine Seminars

Cheese Seminars

After years in a cubicle, Liz Thorpe was drawn to pursue her passion for cheese and has since become the country’s leading expert. She has worked in cheese for sixteen years, for the first decade as the Vice President of New York’s Murray’s Cheese and more recently as the founder of consulting company The People’s Cheese. Her definitive tome The Book of Cheese was published in 2017 and nominated for an IACP award as the year’s best reference book. Liz has talked cheese with Rachael Ray, The Wall Street Journal and starred in Epicurious’s inaugural Price Points video—with 4.8M viewers it’s their most popular video ever.

“Cheese 101” will explore various styles of cheese made by makers joining us at Fete des Fromages. You’ll learn about milk type, flavor and aroma profiles while enjoying wine pairings. Liz’s newest book will also be available for purchase and signing.

Michele Buster

Michele Buster has imported cheese for more than 15 years while cultivating expertise in specialty foods of the Mediterranean. Like most people who fall hard for cheese, she fed her passion by living in Italy and Spain, tasting their varieties of cheeses and observing local artisanship. Michele spends a good deal of her time sourcing products in Europe, traveling across the U.S., and conducting classes and tastings.

Michelle was recently inducted into the prestigious Guilde International des Fromagers, and has been featured in publications from the Philadelphia Inquirer to Travel and Leisure. Most recently she was featured on the cover of Cheese Connoisseur magazine.

In “Sheep is Chic”, you’ll learn about the unique flavors, aromas and styles of Sheep’s milk cheese and taste varieties while enjoying wine pairings.

The “Route des Fromages” in Burgundy, France is a tasty, fun trip! American chef Alex Miles has lived in Dijon, Burgundy for over 25 years and is a chef, pastry chef and sociologist writing and speaking on the international food scene as seen through a cultural lens.

Chef Miles will speak on the origin of cheese (which may have been an accident! Amazingly, cheese is acknowledged to be known to humans prior to recorded history.). He will also discuss the cheeses of the region of Burgundy, wine pairings and more. Audience members will be treated to samples of cheeses and wine.

Come and enjoy a friendly exchange with Chef and ask all the questions you’d like to about food, culture and fun in France!
